The Salt Lake Art Design Board invites Utah artists or artist-led teams to submit models and applications for a new series of permanent Flying Objects. This series of up to 18 new sculptures will be permanently installed in the Broadway District on the center islands along 300 South (aka Broadway) from 400 West to 300 East. The interesting, eclectic mix of locally-owned businesses—restaurants and bars, book, music, antique and furniture stores, jewelry and clothing boutiques, galleries, theaters, salons—make the Broadway District one of the most inviting and active areas in downtown Salt Lake City. The 300 South Cycle Track that runs from 200 West to 600 East also encourages and promotes cycling as alternative mode of transportation and provides easy accessibility to the businesses along the street.
ELIGIBILITY – Open to artists or artist-led teams residing in Utah
PROJECT BUDGET – The budget for each selected sculpture is $12,500.00 and is all inclusive of artist’s fees and related expenses for design, supplies, fabrication, insurance and transportation. Applicants may submit multiple designs for consideration but no more than two designs per artist/team might be selected for the project. The Salt Lake City Public Art Program is responsible for the costs related to the installation.
DEADLINE -Application materials and scale model must be delivered to the Salt Lake City Arts Council, 54 Finch Lane, (1340 East 100 South) no later than Monday, January 11, 2016 by 5:00 p.m. Hours for delivery are Monday thru Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (closed weekends and holidays).
