The Salt Lake City Arts Council and the Downtown Alliance teamed up to bring original art by some of Utah’s finest artists to the seven kiosks located on Main Street. Using the permanent hexagonal kiosks, which typically advertise downtown events, as “easels,” the City commissioned artists who work in two dimensions to create new, large works of art to be installed behind the glass panels.

Salt Lake City’s public art program solicited two-dimensional original work by Utah artists for this high profile outdoor “gallery.” The project provided an opportunity for painters, photographers and artists who work in other two-dimensional mediums to participate in the public art program, which typically provides more opportunities for sculptors.  The program continued for two years, soliciting additional artists to participate so that the work on exhibit changes over time.

McGarren Flack’s painting was purchased by the City for the permanent collection and is now located in the Salt Lake City’s Transportation Division’s offices.
